Workshop, Platform and Symposium

We’re excited to announce the first IPA event in the Netherlands, with workshops led by international artists: Elvira Santamaria Torres (Mexico)Boris Nieslony (Germany), Jürgen Fritz (Germany), all members of Black Market International (BMI).
Organised by creative producers Lisetteh (The Netherlands) and Jolanda Jansen (The Netherlands) with curator Fay Stevens (United Kingdom), IPA will be hosted for the first time in The Hague.


Black Market International


The event is a collaboration between IPA and BMI. In the beginning of the second week all BMI members are coming. This IPA event is going to be a collaborative laboratory in which you as a workshop participant are performing together with the BMI artists at the end of the event.

BMI is

a group of 12 artists from 9 countries, which is performing, holding seminars and lectures since 1985. Through close contacts with cultural leaders and associated artists, BMI continuously build a worldwide network of performance art. This network forms, according to the geographical and artistic origin of the participants, the model of an temporary community, which is based on constructive cooperation, art and integrity.

There at 2 grants available for foreign people who always wanted to be part of IPA, but weren’t able because of money issues.

TodaysArt


During our presentations in second week, IPA The Hague 2016 will be a periphery programme of TodaysArt from September 21th till 25th 2016. TodaysArt is an international network organization specialized in the presentation and development of contemporary visual and performing arts and emerging culture.

Electriciteitsfabriek

IPA The Hague: The Space Between 2016 takes place in the the former Turbine Hall of The “Electriciteitsfabriek” (electricity factory) in The Hague. The foundation uses this rugged and poetic Hall for art productions. Address: Electriciteitsfabriek, De Constant Rebecqueplein 20, Den Haag

  • Monday, 12th September 2016: Arrival at: Electriciteitsfabriek, De Constant Rebecqueplein 20, Den Haag
    First dinner at 7:00 pm and discussion about organizational issues.
  • Sept 13th – Sept 18th: workshops, meetings and exchange sessions
  • Monday, 19th Sept: Public Presentation
  • Tuesday, 20th Sept: Symposium about "The Space Between" (maybe will shift to Wednesday, 21st)
  • Wednesday, 21st - Sunday, 25th: Pop-Up and durational Performance - Solo and together with Black Market International
  • Monday, 26th September 2016: Departure

Details

  • Workshop: There will be 3 workshop groups, 12 participants per group. You will remain in the same group during the whole workshop. We will have 7 days of workshop including a public presentation at the last day.
  • Exchange session: We have exchange sessions in the evening/night for exchanges between groups.
  • Meals: Dinner is included in the fee. The food is vegetarian.
  • Fee: 300,- Euro. The fee includes:

    • Workshop fee

    • shared sleeping facilities at KingKool The Hague during the workshop (12ht - 20th September 2016/8 nights)

    • dinner together with all artists (vegetarian) during the workshop

Jolanda Jansen studied art at the Royal Academie of Art in The Hague. After this, she undertook a Masters degree at DAI; The Dutch Art Institute in Arnhem. Since 2007 she has been an artist in Video and Performance Art. In 2007 she established with 3 other artists in The Hague, the art collective; ‘stichting STeC’. Their organization strives to make Site Specific projects at original spaces. They collaborated, amongst others, with id11 in the Flatland project in Delft, a site-specific project. They presented the initiative at the ArtPie (Kunstvlaai) in Amsterdam. In 2009, Jansen was selected to participate in the Mentoring Program for emerging artists and curators of Cultuur en Ondernemen where she worked with as mentor, the artist Ulay. During one of her artistic projectS, she met Lisetteh and after this they initiated the P.S. Performance Festival in The Hague in 2015. She has made several trips to do workshops in Europe to deepen her experience and grow artistically; PAS studies, by Johannes Deimling (Ge), IPA by performance duo Vest And Page (Ge/It) and a workshop by performance duo Zierle & Carter (Uk).

Lisetteh studied fine arts at the academie for visual arts in Tilburg, The Netherlands, Cleveland College Fine Arts Middlesbrough, UK and Academie of fine arts in Antwerp, Belgium. Since 1997 sh​e h​as worked as a visual artist in especially drawing, graphic art, installations and life installations, collage/assemblage. In 1998-2004 she worked as an artist in Antwerp and Mechelen and produced and curated her first Art shows. When she moved to TAC Eindhoven  in 2005 she met new artists  with whom she undertook interesting art projects.(such as the "verstand van smaak" series in different cities of Holland and abroard)  on moving back to 's-Hertogenbosch she started working with bART and CBK 's-Hertogenbosch. She started up some new Art projects about collaborations between different artists in different disciplines. This travelled around in the south of Holland ( "Match", ) and she created the first "Big Draw" in 's-Hertogenbosch), this is where she met Jolanda Jansen and out of this grew among other things the collaboration for P.S. Performance Festival the Haque, in 2015.

Fay Stevens is a curator, writer, artist and academic who specialises in the philosophical school of phenomenology. Her work is concerned with essence, ritual, the senses, liminality and the in situ. She regularly exhibits artworks, performs and curates visual and performance art events and is active in the role and value of arts in society.  Fay is Trustee and Studio Holder at Bath Artists' Studios, Co-Director and Curator for Fringe Arts Bath Festival, Writer-in-Residence and Associate Artist for 44AD Artspace Bath, Writer-iin-Residence (2016) for Somerset Art Works and frequently presents artists talks, presentations and workshops. Fay has worked with IPA Founder Jurgen Fritz as a performing artist during his IPA Workshop ‘Crossing the Line’ (2014) and as curator for IPA Bristol ‘Where Performance Happens’, Arnolfini 2015. She has also workshopped with international performance artists ‘Zierle and Carter’ in Berlin (2014), is a Visiting Lecturer for The Royal Central School of Speech and Drama, London  and participates (performance and academic) with The Contemporary Arts Research Unit at Oxford Brookes University.
